 Fred O. Smith, M.D. is Vice President of PharmSupport. Fred combines over 20 years of clinical practice with 25 years in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, serving as a project medical officer, consultant, drug safety expert, medical reviewer, and medical writer. Prior to joining PharmSupport, Fred was an employee of Quintiles, and of Clinical Research International. Fred earned both his bachelors and MD degrees from the University of Florida.
Fred’s experience includes:
- 20 years of medical practice in primary care/geriatrics
- 25 years in pharmaceuticals/biotechnology
- Supervision of >100 clinical trials as a project medical officer and drug safety officer
- Medical review of hundreds of documents, as well as adverse event and medication coding
- Writing of virtually all types of regulatory documents
- Participation and/or presentations at >100 investigator meetings for clinical trials.
- Co-author of two books about clinical research, the Physician Investigator Handbook and the Clinical Research Monitor Handbook.
In January 2001, Fred joined forces with Chandra Louise, Ph.D. to create the company now known as PharmSupport services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
Personally, Fred has a quick wit and enjoys improvisational theater.
