Ten Questions to Ask

Ten Questions to Ask during your Job Interview
by
Chandra Louise, Ph.D.

In just about every job interview, you’ll eventually be asked whether you have any questions for your interviewers.  Many people dread this part of the interview: they know they should have questions, but they can’t think of any! Following are 10 ideas to start you thinking about this difficult, but important, part of your interview.

1. What, exactly, will I be responsible for in this new position?

2. Do you have an organizational chart that explains where this position fits within the organization?

3. What is the turnover for people in this position? (How often do people in this position change jobs, and why?)

4. Where do you see the organization moving within the next 3 years (organizationally, financially, strategically, etc.)?

5. How, in your opinion, will this position benefit the organization, both now and in the future?

6. Who will be my immediate supervisor?

7. What characteristics are you looking for in an ideal job candidate?

8. What, would you say, does the organization value most highly?

9. What is the culture of this organization?

10. Does the organization have any plans for reorganization in the foreseeable future?

These questions are generic questions that could be asked of anyone during your job interview.  For the purposes of informational interviewing, you may get some ideas by looking at our article Ten Steps to Finding a New Job.
